More than $1 million in college scholarship money is available again this year from the UFT. If you are a graduating senior currently attending one of NYC's public schools, you may be eligible for a $5,000 award from the Albert Shanker College Scholarship Fund.
Applications for the UFT scholarships are available at the UFT website (www.uft.org/scholarship-fund) or through your guidance counselor. The application deadline to apply is January 31, 2015. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must meet certain income criteria including eligibility for the Federal Pell Grant financial aid program. An impartial selection committee will choose the winners based on additional criteria including: scholastic average, class standing, overall school record, recommendations and potential for academic success. Award recipients must be accepted in a full-time matriculated, degree-granting program at an accredited college or university. The names of the students selected to win scholarship awards will be announced in April 2015.

We are very proud of this great program and how it aligns with our union's work bringing excelennece to the classroom and strengthening school communities. Our members - your teachers, guidance counselors, school psychologists, social workers, paraprofessionals and others - have dedicated their careers to providing students like you with a quality education. These awards are another way for us to help our students achieve their dreams.
