$1000 Scholarship Award

Theme - Kindness: A simple act of kindness that one offers or is offered to them can change one's life

Through artwork, illustrate a simple act of kindness.

The contest guidelines are as follows:
  1. The contest is open to ALL students graduating in 2014 and is not limited to art students
  2. The theme "kindness" MUST be expressed in the artwork or entry will be disqualified
  3. Entires must be black ink on white paper, no larger than 8 1/2" x 11", suitable for the cover of the Federation Scholarship Journal.
  4. Excessive shading, pointillism, complicated figures and light entries do not reproduce well and should be avoided
  5. All entries must be original artwork. No photocopies of original artwork or computer artwork will be accepted. Religious symbols must not be included in the art and will not be accepted.
  6. All entries must be labeled on the back with the student's name, school, grade, homeroom, home address and telephone number. No names should appear on the front of the artwork.  
  7. Any submissions that do not follow directions will be disqualified. 
  8. All entries must be submitted to ME by March 7
  9. Art contest recipient must be present to accept the award on June 2nd at the Scholarship Luncheon held at The Hilton Garden Inn.
Officers of the SI Federation of PTAs will judge the entries. The winning entry will be selected on the basis of artistic quality, originality within the confines of the theme and the ease of the artwork can be reproduced.

Staten Island Federation of Parent Teacher Associations $2000 Scholarship Award Essay Contest

A $2000 scholarship award is given to one graduate of EACH STATEN ISLAND PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL and one District 31 Special Education student. Any student in the January, June or August 2014 graduating class may apply. The scholarship award application can be obtained by your College Advisor/Guidance Counselor. It can also be accessed on the Federation website at www.sifpta.org.

The criteria is:
  • Written essay based on this years essay question
  • Completed student information sheet
  • Essay recipient must be present to accept the award on June 2nd at the Scholarship Luncheon held at the Hilton Garden Inn
The essay, which is to be written by the student, is to be no more than 500 words (2 pages) and typed in a 14 point plain font with double spacing. Be advised that the student's name MUST NOT appear ANYWHERE on the essay.

ESSAY QUESTION:
Sometimes a simple at of kindness can change one's life. Tell how an act of kindness you offered, or that was offered to you has made an important difference in your life.

Return the completed Student Info Sheet and Essay to ME by MARCH 7TH.
