Okay, here's a BIG post about scholarship and internship opportunities that have come to my attention lately!!
(Here's a great one for McKee students, specifically females!)
GIRLS WHO CODE
This summer marks the launch of the first ever Girls Who Code program, designed to introduce high school girls to basic software development skills.
Beginning this July, 20 girls from the NYC area will learn how video games work, tour the halls of Google, work with female engineers at the city's top startups, and build and showcase a mobile app of their own. Accompanied by yearlong outreach initiatives, mentorship programs, and internship opportunities to realize each participant's potential, the 8-week summer program is the first, exciting step in our vision to develop a new model for STEM education.

We're looking for the hardest-to-reach girls in the five boroughs. No previous experience required; low-income and minority students strongly encouraged.

SADIE NASH LEADERSHIP PROJECT
The Sadie Nash Leadership Project is for young women in New York City ages 14-21. Priority is given to young women in public high schools in the City. We do not look at your grades or your skills. We do not think that is a measure of leadership. We do want young women who are interested in having an experience like SNLP and who can commit to it. We also want young women to join us who are committed to being part of a diverse community, and learning from other young women.
The Summer Institute at SNLP requires an initial commitment of six weeks. The summer program lasts for six weeks from July 5th – August 12th, 2011 Monday through Friday from 10:00am until 4:00pm (on Fridays, we have special events and the hours are different). The Summer Institute is located in Manhattan. There will be required pre-session orientation meetings in early June to prepare you for the summer, and to provide an opportunity to meet staff and to get to know each other. During the summer you and your peers will take interesting classes, meet women involved in different forms of leadership, take workshops on issues that are important to you, go on trips and explore your own and others’ leadership.
Students receive a $10 stipend everyday they're there for lunch and a Metrocard. After completing the Summer Institute with SNLP, they are eligible to apply for the Leadership Institute, which is a year-long after-school program for high-school aged women, incorporating community building and strong leadership development. These are both great opportunities for our students!
