I’m passing on some really cool info I got in my mailbox this morning…
Dear Counselor:
I’d like to tell you about a Cornell University Summer College program for academically talented juniors and seniors interested in how designers think, solve problems, and improve our world.
Design Immersion: Exploring Interior, Graphic, and Product Design (June 23 – July 14, 2012) will give aspiring designers both a theoretical framework and practical experience solving design problems posed by things that are a part of every day life, such as street signs, skateboards, websites, and public parks.
In this three-week program students will have an opportunity to study at our world-class university while earning three college credits, meeting internationally recognized faculty, and making friends from around the world.
Working in cutting-edge facilities in our Ivy League design department, students will explore the history, theory, and practice of design, participate in hands-on design workshops, and come to understand design-s potential as a powerful force for change.
In addition to spending time in the studio, students will work with glass at the Corning Museum of Glass, analyze some of the hallmarks of contemporary architecture during visits to LEED-certified buildings by Richard Meier and Rem Koolhaas, and enjoy excursions to local natural areas.
Applications for this program are being accepted now through May 4, 2012. For more information, visit www.summercollege.cornell.edu. Please call or email us if you have any questions.
This program sounds really cool, especially for some of our Graphic Design students! This isn’t the only program offered by Cornell. The Cornell University Summer College offers three- and six-week programs for talented HS sophomores, juniors, and seniors. There are more than 20 programs (like architecture, art and design, business, engineering, environmental studies, humanities, law and government, medicine, psychology, veterinary medicine and animal science, and others) and 45 courses offered between June 23 and August 7, 2012. The application admission for most programs is May 4th; the financial aid application deadline is April 6th. The tuition for the three-week course is $6,020 (I know, it’s a little steep!) BUT there is financial aid available, so if you are interested in a great experience that will look AMAZING on your college resume, give it a shot! See their website for more info at www.summercollege.cornell.edu.
